Why Automating pH Measurement is Important

Automation of pH allows for a more consistent recording of measurements undertaken. However, it is important that the automation instrument has the means to accurately control the precision of the pH test been performed. Stirrer speeds, the type of stirrer used, electrode washing and pH meter settings all play a key role in accuracy and precision of any soil or water pH test. Studies have found that automated pH measurement is far more accurate than a manual measurement as the manual method usually involves using the pH electrode to stir the medium. This results in loss of sensitivity on the pH electrode junction (glass bulb) as the abrasive nature of the stirring in this manner slowly wears away the thin wall of the glass bulb. (more…)

What are pH and Conductivity?

pH is a measurement of potential hydrogen ions concentration in a substance. This measurement is indicative of how acidic or alkaline a substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0-14, wherein values between 0-6 represent acidity, 7 represents neutrality, and 8-14 represents alkalinity.

Electrical Conductivity is a measurement of total ion concentration in a substance. This is stipulated by determining the capability of a substance to carry an electrical current.

Control your pH and Conductivity testing

Measure water and soil electrical conductivity easily and effectively by using our specified instruments. With our AS3020 Robotic pH and Conductivity Analyser, the pH and Conductivity electrodes are easily interchangeable; the system determines when the electrodes are starting to degrade and prompts the user to change them. The AS3020 Robotic Automated pH and Conductivity Analyser has auto ranging Conductivity electrode capabilities so it identifies what type of Conductivity electrode is currently connected to the system. The Conductivity electrode that comes with the Robotic pH and Conductivity Analyser has Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) built-in, and the software will adjust the pH or Conductivity values as necessary, based on the temperature reading on the ATC Conductivity electrode.

Automated conditional pH & Conductivity electrode calibration

The AS3020 Robotic Automated pH and Conductivity Analyser offers much better measurement control than our competitors including the ability to calibrate the pH and Conductivity electrodes to predefined constraints so you can rest assured that your results are always quality guaranteed. The conditional parameter configured within the method, allows you to instruct the AS3020 Robotic pH and Conductivity Analyser when to perform a calibration check on the electrodes and upon a calibration check failure, to re-calibrate the pH and Conductivity electrode automatically.

To add a quality control or standard into the system, you only have to click the desired sample location and select either “set as QC” or “set as standard” from the pop up menu. The system can even import your QC or standard location from a LIMS file using the intelligent Labfit LIMS connection where you map the LIMS fields once only.
