How is Sulfur is Read on the CS1232 Analyser

CS1232 and Sulfur by Infrared

The CS1232 Sulfur analyser reads organic Sulfur by converting the S to SO2. This conversion process takes place when the organic material, usually pulverised to 70 um or less, is placed into a crucible and then into the combustion furnace. The furnace is purged of all interfering atmosphere with Oxygen to provide an Oxygen rich enviroment. When the sample begins to combust, the Sulfur atoms, S, combines with the Oxygen atoms, O2, and forms SO2. In the Infrared spectrum, the resulting signal of the SO2 is “absorbed” and a loss in signal is observed. This loss of signal is then inverted into a positive plot onscreen for the operator to witness.

Once the infrared signal begins to normalise back to the starting voltage (baseline), the Sulfur analyser then computes if the sample is finished when no significant SO2 is observed. The CS1232 then outputs the result as a percentage of CO2.

In all cases, the combusted sample is drawn through a moiture trap to remove any residual moisture that may be present in the sample. In the case of Sulfur this step is critical to remove any interferences between the SO2 and H2O bands in the infrared spectrum. All manufacturers of Sulfur analysers utilising infrared detection must do this. The sample is then pulled through the IR detection system at a controlled rate set by the flow controller and pushed through the measure flow meter and then out to atmosphere.

The CS1232 Sulfur analyser only reads SO2. This is set to the specific infrared waveband filter that blocks all IR light in the spectrum except that of SO2

How is Carbon Read on the CS1232 Analyser

CS1232 and Carbon by Infrared

The CS1232 Carbon analyser reads organic Carbon by converting the C to CO2. This conversion process takes place when the organic material, usually pulverised to 70 um or less, is placed into a crucible and then into the combustion resistance furnace. The furnace is purged of all interfering atmosphere with Oxygen to provide an Oxygen rich enviroment. (more…)

Labfit Carbon Sulphur Analyser Overview

Carbon Sulphur Combustion Analyser for Organic Materials
Carbon Sulphur Analysis done Right!

Labfit Carbon & Sulphur Analyser

The Labfit Carbon and Sulphur analyser is designed to determine Carbon and Sulphur in minerals and organic materials. The Labfit Carbon and Sulphur Analyser uses a vertical resistance furnace that significantly simplifies the design and makes automation much more reliable. The vertical furnace provides and “airgap” around the combustion crucible inside the combustion chamber.  This method of heating prevents any unwanted thermal shocks from cold combustion boats as used in other instrumentation. More even heating and advanced thermal insulation further reduces power consumption to less than 15 amperes at temperature. (more…)

Why Use Tungsten Accelerator in Carbon & Sulfur Analyzer

Why Use Tungsten Accelerator in Carbon & Sulfur Analyzer

CS1232 Carbon Sulfur Analyzer Tungsten accelerator also known as tungsten particle, tungsten chip accelerator, or tungsten granule is a form of coarse tungsten particles made by breaking forged tungsten bars.   The forged tungsten bars are used instead of sintered tungsten powder because repeated forging of used parts rules out the possibility of other impurities being introduced. The forged tungsten bars have low oxygen which implies they are relatively pure when oxygen is assumed as an impurity.

What is elemental analysis and how is it used in soil testing

What is elemental analysis and how is it used in soil testing?

The elemental analysis is the most profound method for identifying the basic or potentially isotopic characteristics of gases, fluids, or solids. This method is carried out with the help of an automated and preprogrammed analyzer that tests specific contaminants as well as components. When a component is examined for its basic properties it is known as Elemental Analysis and is performed with the help of elemental analyzer. (more…)
